The nearest major commercial airport is the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport 15 minutes south of Seattle and about 40 miles away from Canterwood G&CC. The same airport is used for the US Amateur at Chambers Bay near University Place.  The airlines servicing Seattle-Tacoma are: Aeromexico, AirCanada, AirFrance, AirTran, Alaska, American, Asiana, British, Continental, Delta, EVA, Frontier, Hainan, Hawaiian, Horizon, IcelandAir, JetBlue, Korean, Lufthansa, Midwest, SkyWest, Southwest, SunCountry, United, USAir and Virgin.  All such carriers can be accessed online for schedules, pricing, etc. via the links to the right.  This is the only airport the SPC provides complementary shuttles service from & to during the tournament.

The SPC should be wrapped up by 3pm on Thursday, August 19th (assuming no playoff) so book your departure times to allow sufficient time for return ground travel, rental return and security screening delays at the airport.  Do not book your departure flight out to leave before 6pm on 8/19 from any airport.

Canterwood G&CC is in the west-central portion of Washington State in the Pacific Northwest area of the USA.

The ’10 US Amateur is at Chambers Bay GL which is also in the central western portion of the State and about 15 miles south from Canterwood G&CC (about 20 minutes).

All SPC contestants flying in to the SPC will be provided courtesy shuttle service from & to the Seattle-Tacoma Int’l airport, and to/from the host site / lodging during the time slot of 7:00am on August 14th through final round departures on August 19th leaving no later than 4pm.  Shuttle service is provided between the approved airport, local lodging/ accommodations and Canterwood G&CC.  Shuttles for ancillary activities and to Chambers Bay GL can be arranged with advanced notice via the hotline.  Shuttle hotline from August 14th through 19th is 415.XXX.XXXX (SPC Concierge cell).

NOTICE – The SPC shuttles are for contestants only with personal caddies, friends, relatives and any other party shuttled on a "space available basis" only if prior arrangements have been made.  If you do not schedule an arrival airport shuttle by 8/13, you’re on your own to get to the SPC venue.  Contact the Tournament Chairman by 8/13 to schedule a shuttle.

The SPC “Tournament Housing Site” (THS) is The INN at Gig Harbor.  The THS is located about 6.3 miles away from the SPC host venue, Canterwood G&CC.  Key terms negotiated for the SPC group rate at THS are:

– $119 per night for either a single king or 2 queen bed room (normal rate is $149)

– group rate is good until July 21 which is the deadline to get the group rate

– to get group rate, the "Scratch Players" group number is 100814SCRA

– reserve room at group rate via telephone at 800.795.9980 from Mar 8 to July 21

– group room rate is for single or double occupancy

Private Accommodations (free housing as guests in private homes)

The SPC will make arrangements for “private accommodations” (code language for free housing meeting USGA Rules of Amateur Status criteria) for about half the contestants playing in the tournament.  It is anticipated that these privately housed contestants will be extended such “free” housing by SPC hosts who are primarily host venue members in and around the golf course neighborhood.  Priority goes to contestants only who are flying in for the tournament, juniors and collegiate age contestants.  The “pecking order” generally goes to pre-mids first and/or to those traveling the furthest.  The SPC “guarantees” private accommodations to any contestant flying in who is from any country outside North America (Asia, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, South America, South Africa, etc)  and to any collegiate or junior meeting stipulated SPC exemption criteria also flying in for the tournament.

Sunday, August 15th (primary player arrival day)

Player shuttles commence at 7am from the Seattle-Tacoma airport

SPC  practice rounds contingent on tee time availability (make arrangements upon arrival)

Monday, August 16th (Practice Round day)

Practice Round day includes buffet lunch – tee time reservations all day via the pro shop

Player Registration from 11AM to 5PM  and again from 5PM to 8PM (contestant tee prizes, locker assignment and Player Program)
SPC “Hospitality Hour” from 6PM to 7PM in the Clubhouse bar area

"Players Dinner" is included in the Canterwood clubhouse dining room from 7:00 to 8:30’ish

Tuesday, August 17th (first day of SPC)

Buffet breakfast included for contestants only in the Canterwood clubhouse

On course fruit, snacks & beverage provided at multiple locations (coolers)

Between rounds buffet lunch is included for contestants only at the Canterwood clubhouse

SPC contestants are "on their own" for dinner

Players “Hospitality Suite” is open at the Tournament Housing Site from around 5PM ‘til about 10:30PM

Wednesday, August 18th  (third round of SPC)

Buffet breakfast included for remaining contestants only in the Canterwood clubhouse

On course fruit, snacks & beverage provided at multiple locations (coolers)

Lunch is included for remaining contestants only at the Canterwood clubhouse from 11:30AM to 2PM

"Committee Dinner" in the Canterwood clubhouse dining room from 7:30PM to 8:45’ish (final round contestants invited upon request)

Thursday, August 19th  (final round of SPC)

Buffet breakfast included for remaining contestants only in the Canterwood clubhouse dining room

On course fruit, snacks & beverage provided at multiple locations (coolers)

Lunch is included for remaining contestants only at the Canterwood clubhouse from 1PM to 2PM

Champion award presentation and other performance prizes immediately after the conclusion of play

Last SPC complementary shuttle leaves Canterwood area for airport or Chambers Bay no later than 4PM

The average high temperature for Gig Harbour in August has been 77° with the average low about 55°.  It is reasonable to expect likely temperatures during tournament play to be between 60° and 80°.  The possibility of rainfall and thunderstorms exists to an insignificant degree with the average level of precipitation in August of 0.83".  It can get warm and proper type & length of shorts are permitted with sweaters in the morning a possibility so plan attire needs accordingly and bring rain gear notwithstanding that August is the best weather month of the year in Gig Harbour.  The course elevation is close to sea level.  During the 10 SPC, sunrise will be about 6:07 and sunset about 8:18.  The first SPC tee time each day is 7:30AM and the last time during the final two rounds is no later than 9:40AM  (weather permitting).
